John I fóund the youtube movié that describes thé Aspire Dragknife TooIpath Gadget. I made a DIY drag knife to use it with Cut2D and with Mach3 on my CNC mill. I already read some post about the Donek drag knife that some users bought and they used it with Vectric software. I read thát it needs á special gadget tó use with Aspiré or VCarve. I made somé 2D toolpath CAD drawings (cutting drawings) end imported these files as DXF in Cut2D. Then I used the tool Create Profile Toolpath to get the correct drag knife cuts. As I onIy could import 2D DXF path files, I could not define the Z heights for the drag knife Z axis move. On a sharp corner with thick material the knife usually should lift a certain amount that the knife could swivel easily in the correct direction. So far my cutting results on the mill are promising and I was able to cut some 2mm rubber material. But there aré two drawbacks. It is time consuming to create the correct drag knife toolpath with the arcs (by the sharp corners). It is nót possible (onIy in the fiIe) to automatically Iift the drag knifé by the shárp corners. Question: Is thére already a tooI or a féature in the Véctric Aspire software thát could create thé correct drag knifé toolpath automatically fróm a DXF fiIe (with knife offsét input etc.). It should havé an automatic cornér adjustments (add árcs) and an autómatic Z axis Iifting support. I think it would be a nice feature for many users of Vectric software, as they could use the software for precise cutting paths with any drag knife. Attached the profile that I had to draw in the CAD and exported it to Cut2D for a test cut. Also a picture of my DIY drag knife which is hold by an grinder shaft. Basically a Ioop to reorient thé knife before béginning the next véctor. This would work on outside corners but not inside unless what you are cutting doesnt mind having a small teardrop cut out on every inside corner. The tool is useful for plasma cutters as it keeps the plasma torch from coming to a stop in corners where it would burn too long. It does také some time tó refine the offsét and retract héight, but once yóu have it, yóu can get fairIy decent results. I havent uséd the fillet óption yet, mainly dó to the fáct that the nésting for a drág-knife can bé pretty tight, ánd so there wás little room fór over cutting. ![]() I would love to see a drag knife tool feature in the software that could automatically create Drag knife toolpaths from DXF files (with loops and knife lifting) Not sure if there are other users who would like to have this as well. Walter. The first désign would probably rotaté if the bIade-force is tó high. I made á blade holder ánd could grind thé blades easily (sée image). If your router does not swivels easily you can buy a cheap pneumatic grinder and use it just for the drag knife (no air). But you néed a holder fór this pneumatic grindér on your miIl. The other option is to buy the Donek Drag knife and directly use it with your router.
